ALCH Aims & Values

The Association for Latinx Culture and History will gather, support, and accelerate historical work related to Latinx communities in the United States. It will promote scholarship, expand academic and professional opportunities, enrich pedagogy, and develop projects that advance understandings of Latinx culture and history.

Created by and for students, scholars, public historians, archivists, and other practitioners, this national association will draw members from colleges and universities, museums and public history institutions, libraries and archives, and other organizations and communities around the country.

There is enormous hunger for Latinx history, but this moment is also defined by growing misinformation about the Latinx past, cutbacks that threaten educational and public history efforts, and the loss of critical archives and other Latinx historical resources. We need a national association that educates the public; supports students, researchers, teachers, and other practitioners; promotes collaboration; and shares strategies related to historical documentation, preservation, research, teaching, and programming.
